Products and merchandise are usually stored in warehouses prior to distribution. This is where business owners and companies count their goods and check them for any last minute concerns. Warehouse storage handling is no easy task and requires special tools and equipment in order to get the job done. There are certain tips and tricks you can put into action however if you want to make the most of your warehouse storage to ease the process, be more efficient, better safety and increase the profits.

  1. Proper Storage: Some warehouse operators and managers have trouble because of poor storage and sorting of goods and merchandise. There are times when products get mixed together thus making it extremely difficult to perform inventory checks and to transport items from warehouse to truck. Make sure that you keep similar items together to avoid any mix ups and to speed up the process all together. Organise isles / shelves into product categories then narrow it down to sizes, weights etc.

  2. Labelling and Signage: It’s any warehouse manager’s nightmare to have to look for a product throughout an entire warehouse. It doesn’t matter how big the merchandise is – a warehouse is spacious enough to make it feel like you’re looking for a needle in a haystack. Put up the proper signs and labels to keep everything in check and to make it easier to locate items within the space. Label areas, isles down to shelves.

  3. Proper Lighting: Operating in a dark or dimly lit warehouse can make the entire process just that much harder. Aside from the fact that darkness can make it exceptionally hard to locate merchandise, it can also be the reason for accidents and untoward incidents. Install appropriate lighting fixtures to make sure your people are kept safe at all times.

  4. Appropriate Equipment: Forklifts and other equipment are mainstays in many warehouses to make it easier to move things around. Ensuring your employees aren’t carry heavy goods or doing anything too strenuous that might cause injury to them. Also meaning work within the workplace will be more efficient by using the correct equipment, increasing productivity. But there will be certain pallets that are lower than the usual. For this purpose, you might want to purchase a low profile pallet truck to get under lower pallets.
