Put It Away: Organization Tips to Clean Up Your Office’s Storage System

December 16, 2020

Your office’s storage system can easily become filled with clutter, and you may have difficulty finding what you are looking for. Fortunately, there are some ways that you can organize it to better suit your needs. Take advantage of these organization tips to clean up your office’s storage system.

Get Rid of Clutter

You probably have all sorts of things that you don’t really need anymore. Get rid of all of the items that you haven’t used in at least six months. Chances are that you won’t use these items in the future, and they are just cluttering up your space. If you know you will actually use them—perhaps they’re pieces of office furniture or seasonal office decorations—rent a storage unit and store them there.

Install Wire Shelving

If you don’t have enough shelf space to put your items, it can be difficult for you to organize your storage system. In this case, consider installing wire shelving. It is easy to put up, and it will give you a place to put everything away neatly. Wire shelving is also very light and versatile, which means that if your setup changes in the future, you can easily move them around.

Put Smaller Items in Containers

Even small items can take up a lot of space, and it’s difficult to organize them in a way that’s aesthetically appealing. Also, if they don’t have a designated space, they can easily get lost amongst everything else. You may find it beneficial to put these smaller items in containers that you can place on your shelves. Try to put similar items together, and label each container so that you can easily find what you are looking for later.

Make Frequently Used Items Easily Accessible

Your storage system can easily get unorganized if you are constantly having to root around on the shelves when you are looking for something. You will find it beneficial to put frequently used items in a place that is easily accessible. These items should be on shelves that are at eye level or easy to reach. Items that are only used occasionally should be put on higher shelves or towards the back of your storage system.

Assign a Place for Each Item

All of your items should have their own place. No one in the office should just put items wherever they feel like it when they are done using it, or no one else will be able to find anything. By assigning a specific place for each item, you will create better organization habits. Make sure that the spaces are clearly labeled and that everyone in the office understands the organization system.

It’s fairly simple to create an organized storage system for your office. It’s imperative that you get rid of clutter, add adequate wire shelving, and make sure everything has a place that will be the most beneficial for you. By taking the time to get organized, your work day will go a lot smoother.
