Residential Bridges Add Value To Your Home

March 15, 2016

Depending on the condition of your home and property when you purchased it, landscaping may or may not be at the top of your list of priorities.  However, once your home is in a livable state, beautifying the outside surroundings can add not only visual appeal but monetary benefit as well.

There are many options available when it comes to landscaping your property.  Adding or enlarging a patio, building a gazebo, BBQ pit, swimming pool, interlocking driveway, porches, fences, gates or walkways are all ways to modernize the outdoor surroundings while adding creature comforts.  More natural forms of landscaping such as garden or flower beds, trees, terrain leveling, hedges or natural ponds add natural majesty.  While larger properties are usually the most suitable candidates, many cottage owners have custom bridges built to span water front outcrops, rough terrain on the property or to add some flair to a dock or boat mooring.

In the case of this article we will be looking at residential bridges to offer a slice of style to your home.  Some larger properties may have a small creek or an uneven trench running through them, which makes walking about the grounds difficult.  This is a perfect situation for a residential bridge to be put to use.  Residential bridges can also be put to use to join sections or arch over the top of swimming pools or fountains and will be a prominent feature of your home.  These bridges can be made out of wood, concrete, composite materials such as Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) or Carbon fiber, high-grade plastics or a combination of these products.  Constructions are normally guaranteed for a lifetime and have been shown to add significant value to your property.

Usually the construction of a residential bridge takes place in three steps:

Design phase: a bridge architect will come to your home to take measurements and consult with the owners on their ideas.

Construction phase:  This part of construction usually occurs off-site at the workplace of the contractor, where your custom bridge is made to measure.

Installation phase:  The pre-made bridge will be brought to your property to be installed.  First a test fitting will occur and any alterations to make the fit just right will be completed on site.

Most contractors will have a catalogue of bridge design choices or a portfolio of previous projects for potential buyers to browse to help in choosing what they would like.  Many builders don’t only create residential bridges, but take the concept to more commercial settings such as golf course bridges or park and trail bridges, which are often requisitioned by the municipality.

Perhaps, residential bridges wont work on every property, but if applicable nothing compares to the usefulness and architectural beauty they can provide. A good place to start is to do some online research for design ideas.  Take a look at golf courses, hotels and resorts or even personal cottages for examples.  There are a handful of reputable builders out there with one of the better ones being Links Bridges.  The builder is located stateside in Florida or up north in Ontario, Canada.  You can find them online at their website and they will be happy to assist you in your search for the perfect residential bridge for your property.
