Why Most People Are Better Off Because Of College

November 1, 2021

Today, there’s a lot of talk about why college is not necessary. Most people who buy this idea tend to look at things from a biased perspective. Colleges have changed the lives of many people around the world in many ways. Most people are better off because of college, and here are some reasons why.

Knowledge Creates Economic Empowerment

Knowledge is power, and with it, people can change their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Thanks to institutions of higher learning and college-preparatory boarding schools, many people have a shot at a better future. In many ways, getting a degree puts you in a position to earn more than someone who isn’t a college graduate. Moreover, countries prioritizing higher education tend to have better economies.

Better Health and Medical Needs

Studies also show that finishing college contributes to good health. People with a degree have better jobs, and they tend to earn more money. Because of this, they are less affected by financial stress issues. They are also able to afford health insurance. Stress and anxiety contribute to many health problems faced by people.

Better Chance at a Retirement Plan

Most people work until they can’t do it any longer. For people in the informal sector, a retirement plan isn’t always on the table. As such, someone may have to work longer than they might have intended. However, more people with college degrees have employers willing to offer retirement plans.

Better Social Skills

College is the perfect place to interact with people from different walks of life. Other than the academic course, you also get to learn other things too. Meeting people and learning interpersonal skills is part of the college experience. When you attend a college with people from different countries, it opens up your mind. It changes many biases you may have had before interacting with others.

Increased Sense of Responsibility

Going to college allows someone to become responsible faster. You start having to take on the responsibility for your finances, studies, and family life. Great societies do well because of responsible citizens.

Final Thoughts

Today, people have options outside of college. However, that doesn’t make college irrelevant. Can you imagine working with a doctor without the necessary training? What about hiring a legal aid who has never gone to law school? It just doesn’t make sense. Even though things may be changing, college still has many benefits for people.
