As a business owner or manager, it is critical that your employees know how much that you appreciate them. Otherwise, they may think that their hard work is all for nothing. What are some ways that you can show appreciation to your people in a way that will keep morale high and productivity at peak levels?
The easiest way to show appreciation to those in your organization is to say thank you whenever you can. It indicates to your people that you see and understand what they do each day to make your company one worth associating with. It also shows that you understand the physical, mental and emotional sacrifice that is made when a person comes to work. Remember, your people would much rather be sleeping in, playing with their kids or helping their ailing parents or grandparents. By saying thank you, you show how much that you and the company care about the people who make the company a viable organization now and in the long run.
One of the best ways to say thank you is to put a little extra money in your worker’s paychecks every so often. The best part is that you don’t have to provide large bonuses to show how much you appreciate your people. In some cases, an extra $20 or a gift card for a free ham can be enough to keep employees motivated to work hard. Financial bonuses may be a great way to reward those who have gone the extra mile to increase sales or who have simply grown as employees. Some companies provide an extra dollar per hour or offer double an employee’s normal wage for taking extra shifts or agreeing to work night or weekend shifts.
These can offer workers a brief respite during which managers and employees can talk and laugh as friends and equals. Taking employees to family fun centers in Utah or other areas, can be a great way to show how much you care about the hard work that your people put in. It may also be a great opportunity for workers in multiple departments to meet and get to know each other. By forging relationships outside of the workplace, it can help workers to forge better relationships within the workplace as well. When everyone knows each other as more than the receptionist or the sales manager, it improves communication within the workplace. Therefore, company outings can build stronger teams and improve productivity while also acting as a way to say thank you.
Providing your people with opportunities to advance within the company is a great way to engender loyalty within your organization. Workers who know that doing a good job today could lead to a raise or promotion are more likely to work to the best of their abilities. Even if you can’t promote a worker in the near future, there is never a bad time to teach that person new skills. Hopefully, this will prepare that person for a promotion when a position comes open. However, even if a worker is able to get a job with another company, he or she will still think highly of your company, which is still a positive thing.
Companies don’t reach their full potential unless they have motivated and happy employees.
