Medical Careers That Don’t Require A Graduate Degree

August 24, 2021

Individuals practicing medical careers are seen as heroes in society, and we all desire to become like them. While everyone knows that becoming a doctor takes many years of schooling, you don’t need a graduate degree in order to get into the field of medicine. Below are some of the common medical careers that you can pursue without a graduate degree.

Home Health Assistant

They are also known as health aides and play the crucial role of helping the seniors at their homes. As you grow, your muscles and tissues become weak, and you are not as fast as you used to be, and you will require assistance and medication. That is where the health aides come in. These professionals have the role of watching over seniors and helping them with medications and some other daily tasks. To pursue this, look into medical assistant programs.

Surgical Technologist

The need for surgical technologists is increasing by the day. Becoming a surgeon requires many years of education and training, but they also require assistants to help them while performing surgery. As a surgical technologist, your work will mainly be to prepare the surgical rooms and the surgeon’s equipment. The demand for surgical technologists is very high, so it may be a good option for you if you want to get into the medical field.

Physician Aid

These professionals are also referred to as physician assistants (PAs) in some hospitals. It’s a vital job that involves working closely with physicians as they treat patients. Just like other personal assistants, you will make notes on the doctor’s diagnosis and even remind the doctor about their meetings.

To pursue this career, you will likely need a bachelors degree and a PA training program, but it will not require a master’s or doctorate degree.

Phlebotomist

This career choice mostly involves taking the blood samples of patients. This could be for the purposes of lab testing, blood donation, or plasma donation. It is a common entry-level position for people in the field.

Massage Therapist

Another great option is to become a massage therapist. You do not need to go to a university to become a massage therapist, but you will need to enroll in a special training course, usually for around six months. This line of work will allow you to help people relax from their stressful lifestyles and even alleviate chronic pain and other issues.

Medical Transcriptionist

Thanks to technology, patients can now make calls to their doctors and receive their medication or even book appointments. As a medical transcriptionist, all you need is a good headset, stable internet, and listening skills to make notes of online communications. Doctors deal with many patients, and your notes will come in handy in reminding them what to do.

Overall, there are several options available to those who are interested in the medical field but don’t want to seek a masters or doctorate program at the moment. Consider your personal strengths and qualifications when choosing which path is best for you.
